I never really got why it was important to Robert that Holly attend the casino opening. I think he really wanted to walk in the front door with his wife on his arm. It was a sort of normality

My take on it is that Robert wanted Holly to go to the casino as like some kind of "substitute eye" for Robert, who stated publicly on TV he was against gambling in PC..because of it's well-known connection with crime and particularly organized crime.

I never really got why it was important to Robert that Holly attend the casino opening. I really never understood this either, especially since she was so adamant about not going. Why did he want her to go so badly and then when they got there he spent all of his time working.

At the end she went and spent her time flirting with Luke. Wrong choice Robert

Did anybody think Holly may have been right, that he wanted her there as a prize? He did some back and forth himself that summer ... one minute he'd say you can see Luke, I don't care and the next, he'd freak out if/when she did. As I said, each of the three did some things that summer that made me want to smack them, but overall, they were all good guys in the end. I so miss that on current GH...

I kind of saw it as a combination of wanting the prize on his arm and wanting to see Holly's reaction to being in close proximity with Luke. Robert was no dummy. Holly was saying and doing all the right things, but I think he knew deep down that Luke was still an issue. And I agree with rhda8386, R/H/L all did things that made me want to smack them that summer. LOL! But there were no villains in this triangle. Not even Luke. He was an ass most of the time, but I could still sympathize with him to a certain extent even though I wanted Holly with Robert.

The three of them did mistakes that summer. And there were no heroes and no villians in this story. This is why I loved it so much. Because they were imperfect good guys and they really loved to each other. So I really wanted Holly with Robert and Robert with Luke

i think that's one of the things that was unique about the R/H/L triangle. There were no villians. No one really did anything *wrong*. It wasn't like Holly went behind either of the men's backs....Robert was very honorable and noble and Luke never really forced anything....
although, he was incredibly jerky when he had that first convo with Holly after he came back-- and i mean him falling and pretending he couldn't get up and making her struggle trying to life him. He did a lot of emotional blackmail, imo

Actually, I think the biggest asses in it all were Bobbie, Brock, Jackie and Natalie!

When Holly chose Robert Luke knew that she was torn but he never forced anything, even after she flirted with him at the casino. I really like the last convo between the two of them before the kidnapping, the one at the casino, when Holly went to ask him about the disk. At that point Holly was completely over him and the only thing she wanted to discuss with him was the disk. I like when she said "I don't have any regret" and he answered "I'm happy for you. I regret giving you up, English. I really do." And she went home to make love with Robert. LOL.

Probably not the place to ask this as I'm sure there's not much sympathy for '83 Luke here ... but I'm rewatching my own playlist and am now wondering about how Holly jerked Luke around that night. The "I know when to put an end to things" then smiling at him and leaving could be seen as a little mean considering she did end things with him pretty abruptly on that dock (not to mention she left with a big wad of his cash!). Did she purposely get a dig in at Luke b/c Robert had been hurting her? AND, did that also mean she figured out she'd try a different way to get Robert's attention ... i.e. "put an end" to the bickering?

When I originally watched this I did think Holly seduced Robert because she got turned on by Luke. Holly was definitely torn between the two men. When she chose Robert initially, it was only because Luke couldn't say he trusted her. She was totally prepared to be with him over Robert at that point.
I think for awhile afterward he heart still leaned towards Luke. It really took the DVX kidnapping for her to finally realize just how much she was now totally over Luke and her heart only had room for Robert.
The story was told so well. Like everyone said---no bad guys. It would be so different if it were told today. You know Guza would've had Holly jumping in and out of both their beds during the whole thing. I wish GH could be a fraction of this good again.

I don't think Robert wanted her on his arm as a prize, but as a show of normalcy as another poster mentioned. After all, this was the first major function they were to attend since Holly chose to return to Robert. And as the Police Commissioner (a dignitary, if you will), he did have a standard to abide by. If Holly had not attended, it very well may have damaged his reputation, and made people gossip that maybe Holly wasn't completely over Luke (which, at that time, she wasn't). And I didn't see her as abruptly leaving him on the dock. She gave Luke ample opportunity to declare he trusted her, but he couldn't, so she had no choice. Sadly, that made her choosing Robert seem like he was second best. The turnaround episode for me wasn't her trip to Barbados, but the one when Connie came over and Holly invited her to stay for lunch, and left the room. When Connie told Robert that Holly felt comfortable leaving him with another woman.
